Confessions
Let members post anonymous messages to a channel you control.
Confessions
A confession is an anonymous post. Members send bore a message, and it appears in your channel under a name and avatar you choose. Nothing about the author is shown, and bore does not display it to anyone, including you.
Turning it on
,confessions add #confessionsAlias for the group: confession. Needs Manage Server, and bore needs Manage Webhooks in that channel, because posts go out as a separate identity rather than as the bot.
,confessions removeDeletes the setup and its posting identity.
,confessions enable
,confessions disablePauses submissions without losing your channel, name or settings.
Posting
,confess nobody knows I run the alt accountNo permission needed, and it works for every member. Bore posts it to your configured channel, deletes the command so the text does not linger where people can trace it, and confirms with a message that disappears after fifteen seconds.
Each post is numbered from 1 for your server, and that number is what you use to report or act on it.
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Length | 1900 characters |
| Embeds | Not allowed in a confession |
| Cooldown | None, but see blocking and muting below |
Setting the tone
,confessions name Anonymous
,confessions avatar <image or link>
,confessions configThe name is up to 80 characters. The avatar has to be a normal Discord image under 8 MB. Leaving the avatar out returns the default.
Blocking words
,confessions blacklist add slur
,confessions blacklist list
,confessions blacklist remove slur
,confessions blacklist clearAnything containing a blocked phrase is refused before it is posted, and the member is told their confession was rejected. Matching is case-insensitive and looks at the whole message. This is your first line of defence, so load it with the words you never want to see in your channel.
Handling a bad post
Every confession can be reported by anyone, once you give reports somewhere to go:
,confessions reportchannel #confession-reports
,confessions report 12 targeted harassmentreportchannel shows the current channel if you leave it empty, and clear turns reporting off. A report quotes the post, gives the reason, and links back to the original message.
To stop that author posting again:
,confessions mute 12
,confessions unmute 12
,confessions mutelistMuting works from the confession number and does not delete the post. The mute list shows numbers only, because that is all bore keeps.
A mute is close to an unmasking. Once someone is muted, the next time they try to post they are refused, and everyone watching can work out who tried. Use it for people you have already identified.
What bore does not store
Authors are recorded as an unreadable scramble tied to your server, which is how reporting and muting work without bore knowing who wrote anything. There is no command, page or export that turns a confession back into a member. If you need accountability, that has to come from your own server's message screening.
Checking the setup
,confessions configShows the channel, the name in use, whether it is enabled, the report channel, and how many blocked phrases and muted authors you have. It also warns you if the channel was deleted or bore lost the permissions it needs.
