Fake Permissions

Give staff roles access to bore commands without giving them real Discord power.

Fake Permissions

Fake permissions are a bore-only grant. You attach a permission to a role, and anyone with that role can use bore commands that require it, even though Discord itself does not give them that power.

This is useful for two reasons:

  • You can let trusted helpers use moderation commands without handing them real Discord permissions that they could abuse in the server settings.
  • It works with AntiNuke, because a member who only holds fake permissions cannot mass ban from the Discord members list. That takes real Manage Server plus Ban Members, which bore can refuse to give anyone.

Only the server owner can manage fake permissions. There is no way to hand this out to staff.

Adding a fake permission

,fakeperms add @Moderator ban_members

bore confirms: ban_members has been assigned to @Moderator.

Names are forgiving. ban_members, Ban Members and ban members all work.

Listing what a role has

,fakeperms list @Moderator

Removing one

,fakeperms remove @Moderator ban_members

Seeing every valid permission

,fakeperms perms

Pages through all of them, fifteen per page. The ones you will reach for most often:

PermissionUnlocks
administratorEvery bore command check in the server
manage_guildServer-level commands, including AutoRaid and AntiNuke settings
ban_membersBan, unban, recentban
kick_membersKick

manage_rolesRole commands
manage_messagesPurge, warn, and most message tools

view_channelSeeing channels you would otherwise be locked out of

What fake permissions do not do

They change nothing inside Discord. A member with a fake manage_roles grant can give roles through bore, but the Roles settings page stays closed to them. Server widgets, Automod, and any feature that needs bore itself to hold a real permission are unaffected.

They also do not apply to the few commands that check the server owner only, such as fake permissions themselves and AntiNuke's admin list.
