Starboard

Turn the messages everybody likes into a highlights channel.

Starboard

When enough members react with the star emoji, bore copies that message into a board channel of your choice. Good posts rise, and the board becomes an archive worth reading.

Every starboard command needs Manage Server (real or fake). Alias for the group: star.

Setting it up

Two commands and you are live:

,starboard set #starred
,starboard unlock

set also works as channel. bore needs to be able to send and embed in that channel. unlock also works as enable or on, and refuses if no channel is set yet.

Choosing the emoji and the bar

,starboard emoji 💎
,starboard threshold 5

The threshold is how many reactions a message needs, between 1 and 100. Three is the default.

Changing the emoji erases the history: every existing vote, every post already on the board, and every ignore rule. Pick your emoji before you tell members about the channel.

Polishing it

CommandEffect
,starboard color #f1c40fThe bar on the left of every board post
,starboard jumpurl falseHides the "Jump to message" line
,starboard timestamp falseHides the timestamp
,starboard attachments falseSkips images and files from the original message
,starboard selfstar trueLets people star their own message
,starboard lockStops the board, keeps the settings
,starboard configShows everything, including how many targets are ignored
,starboard resetDeletes the board, the votes and the settings

By default self-starring is off, so a message needs genuine support from other members. Bot messages never make the board no matter how they are set.

Ignoring corners of your server

,starboard ignore #bot-spam
,starboard ignore @member
,starboard ignore @Muted
,starboard ignore list

Each one is a toggle, so running it again puts them back on the board. Channels, members and roles all work, by mention or by ID.

How a post behaves

  • Copying happens the moment the threshold is reached, and the board post is edited as the vote count grows.
  • If reactions fall back below the threshold, the post is removed from the board.
  • The board post shows the original author, the original channel, the star count, and a link to jump to the source.
  • A message only needs the reactions; nobody has to run a command for it to appear.
