Levels

Award XP for chatting, hand out role rewards, and show off a leaderboard.

Levels

Members earn XP by talking. Levels unlock role rewards, a leaderboard, and level gates on giveaways.

Levels are off until you turn them on:

,levels unlock

Nothing is counted before that, so there is no hidden XP being collected on your server right now.

How XP works

  • One eligible message earns between 15 and 25 XP, multiplied by your server's rate.
  • A member can only earn from one message per minute. Spamming does not help.
  • Bot messages, commands, ignored channels, ignored roles and ignored members earn nothing.
  • Level 500 is the cap, and each level costs more than the last.

Looking at progress

,levels
,levels @member

Aliases for the group: level, rank, ranks. Shows a card with their level, total XP, progress toward the next level, position on the leaderboard, and how many messages they have sent.

,levels leaderboard

Aliases: top, lb. The top two hundred members, ten per page, medals on the first three.

,levels roles

Lists every level reward you have configured.

Level rewards

,levels add 10 @Regular

Needs Manage Server and Manage Roles. Members who reach level 10 get @Regular automatically.

,levels update 10 @Active
,levels remove 10

One role per level, one level per role. Roles above bore's top role, managed roles and @everyone are refused.

,levels stackroles false

By default a member keeps every reward they ever earned. With stacking off, only the highest reward they qualify for is held, and lower ones are removed as they climb. Leaving and rejoining is handled by:

,levels sync
,levels sync @member

sync with no member works through the top one thousand by XP, so use it after adding your first rewards.

Level up announcements

,levels messagemode channel

Alias: mode. Four choices:

ModeWhat happens
channelPosted wherever they last spoke. Default
contextSent as a reply to the message that pushed them over
pmDirect messaged to the member
noneSilent

Change the words:

,levels message set {user.mention} reached level {level}!
,levels message reset
,levels message view

The message accepts the embed script syntax, so adding {embed} at the start makes it a proper announcement card. Run ,levels message on its own to see which placeholders are available.

Speed

,levels setrate 2

A multiplier between 0.1 and 10. Two means everything is earned twice as fast, so a level ten reward arrives roughly half as long after unlocking.

Keeping quiet corners out of it

,levels ignore #bot-spam
,levels ignore @Muted
,levels ignore @member
,levels ignore list

Aliases: list, ignored. Each one is a toggle: running it again on the same target puts them back in. Ignored channels, roles and members simply stop earning.

Managing one member

Needs Manage Server. These are for corrections, not everyday use:

,setxp @member 5000
,setlevel @member 20
,removexp @member 300

setxp sets their total XP, setlevel jumps them to the exact XP that level needs, and removexp subtracts. All three recalculate the level and re-apply rewards. Negative amounts are treated as zero.

Cleaning up

,levels reset @member
,levels reset
,levels cleanup

Both ask for a confirmation button first. reset with no member clears everyone's XP, and cleanup removes stored progress for members who have left, which keeps the leaderboard honest.

Checking the setup

,levels config

Alias: settings. Shows whether levels are on, the XP rate, stacking, the announcement mode, how many rewards and ignores exist, and a preview of the level up message.

Leaderboard title

,levels leaderboard rename The Wall of Fame

Needs Manage Server. Up to 256 characters.
