Automod

Filter links, invites, spam, caps, mentions, emoji, walls of text and blocked words.

Automod

bore's message filter catches the things that make a channel unpleasant: ad links, invite advertising, all-caps shouting, mention spam, emoji flooding, wall posts, and words you do not want said.

Eight filters, each switched on and configured separately.

The fast way in

,filter setup

Two menus: pick which filters you want, then pick the punishment. bore does the rest. Ten minute timeout on the menus, and only you can click them.

,filter panel

A panel with a button per filter, green when it is on. Toggle anything from here and it takes effect immediately.

Seeing the state

,filter list
,filter stats
,filter logs #mod-logs

list shows every filter with its state, stats shows how much each one has been used, and logs sets the single channel every filter action is reported to. Without a log channel you will only see the message disappear. Run filter logs with no channel to check what is set.

The filters

FilterCatches
,filter linksAny web link to a domain you have not whitelisted
,filter invitesDiscord invite links
,filter spamMessages Discord itself considers spam
,filter capsMessages written mostly in capital letters
,filter mentionsMessages with too many pings
,filter emojiMessages with too many emoji
,filter walloftextMessages with too many lines
,filter wordMessages containing a blocked word

Four of these are handed to Discord's own Automod, which catches the message before anyone in the server sees it. The rest are checked by bore as the message arrives, which means the message appears and is then deleted. Only links can be moved between the two, and you do not need to think about it unless Discord refuses a rule.

Enabling and disabling

,filter caps enable
,filter caps disable
,filter caps status

The bare form, ,filter caps, prints the same information as status: state, punishment, threshold, how many exemptions, and whether the underlying rule is in place.

Punishments

,filter <name> punishment <action> [duration]
ActionEffect
deleteThe message goes away. This is the default
warnThe message goes away and the member gets a direct message
timeoutThe message goes away and the member is timed out. Duration required
kickThe message goes away and the member is kicked
banThe message goes away and the member is banned
,filter caps punishment timeout 10m
,filter links punishment ban

Discord's own filters can only delete or time someone out. If you set warn, kick or ban on word, invites, spam or mentions, you have to let bore handle that filter instead.

Kicks, bans and timeouts are skipped for the server owner and for anyone whose top role sits above bore's, so you cannot accidentally purge your own team.

Thresholds

Each filter has its own number to tune.

,filter caps threshold 70 10

Shouting when more than 70 percent of the letters are capitals, in messages of at least 10 letters. Defaults are 70 and 10.

,filter mentions threshold 5
,filter emoji threshold 10
,filter walloftext limit 15

Mentions trigger on more than the number you give, capped at 100 by Discord. Emoji counts custom and unicode emoji together and defaults to 10. The wall limit counts lines and defaults to 15.

,filter spam threshold 5 5

Five messages in five seconds. Discord makes the actual spam decision and this number is only a reference, so leave it alone unless you are matching it to your own intuition.

Blocked words

,filter word add freecode
,filter word list
,filter word remove freecode

Up to one thousand words, sixty characters each, matched anywhere inside a message and case-insensitively. You cannot enable the word filter until at least one word exists.

,filter links whitelist example.com
,filter links whitelist list
,filter links unwhitelist example.com

A whitelisted domain also covers its subdomains. The whitelist only applies when bore is doing the checking, which is the default for links.

Exempting roles, channels and people

,filter caps exempt @Moderator
,filter links exempt #announcements
,filter emoji unexempt @Muted
,filter caps exempt list

Exemptions are matched as a role first, then a channel, then a member, so mentions work as you would expect. Discord's filters cannot exempt an individual person, only a role or a channel: if you need a person skipped, give them a role and exempt the role.

Every filter has its own exemption list, so a moderator can be free of the caps filter and still blocked by the word filter.

When Discord rejects a rule

Discord has hard limits on how many Automod rules and exempted roles a server can have. If bore cannot create a rule it tells you, and that filter stays off.

,filter automod status
,filter automod sync
,filter automod reset

status compares what you configured with what actually exists in Discord. sync rebuilds the rules to match. reset deletes only the rules bore made, leaving your settings intact. bore never touches Automod rules it did not create.

Starting over

,filter reset

Asks for confirmation, then deletes every filter setting, exemption, blocked word, whitelist entry, and log channel for your server.
