Webhooks
Create your own posting identities and send messages through them.
Webhooks
A webhook is a second voice in your server: it posts under a name and avatar you choose, not as bore. Use one for announcements, reposted news, or anything you want to look like it came from a person rather than the bot.
Every webhook command works only in a server, and needs Manage Webhooks (real or fake).
Making one
,webhook create Release BotAliases: add, new. Names up to 100 characters.
bore replies with a short code like a1b2c3. That is your webhook's identifier, and you use it for everything else, so keep it visible. The webhook lives in the channel you created it in.
Sending through it
,webhook send a1b2c3 Patch notes are live.Aliases: post, say.
You can send an embed script instead of plain text:
,webhook send a1b2c3 {embed}$v{title:Patch 1.4$v{description:Bug fixes.$v{color:#57f287Mentions inside a webhook message only ping individual people. @everyone and role pings are blocked, so a stray "ping everyone" cannot go out through a webhook.
Fixing a message it already sent
,webhook edit <message link> {embed}$v{description:Corrected time: 8pmAlias: update. Paste the link to a message your webhook posted. It has to be a message from one of your stored webhooks in this server.
Changing how it looks
,webhook avatar a1b2c3 <image or link>
,webhook rename a1b2c3 Patch NotesAliases: icon, and name. Both up to Discord's own limits, and the avatar has to be a real image under 8 MB.
Listing and inspecting
,webhook list
,webhook info a1b2c3Aliases: all, and show or view. list shows everyone's webhooks if you hold real Manage Webhooks, and only your own otherwise. Each entry shows the channel, who made it, and whether it is locked.
Locking it
,webhook lock a1b2c3
,webhook unlock a1b2c3Aliases: freeze, unfreeze. A locked webhook is marked as such in list and info, so nobody is tempted to try.
Ownership
Your webhook is yours. Only you can send through it, edit its messages, lock it, change its avatar, or rebuild it. Another moderator with Manage Webhooks can delete or rename it, and nothing else. This is deliberate: it stops a second moderator from posting as your announcement identity.
When it breaks
If somebody deletes the webhook in Discord's server settings, your stored entry goes stale.
,webhook recreate a1b2c3Aliases: fix, refresh. Makes a fresh webhook with the same name, identifier and channel. webhook send also rebuilds it for you automatically the first time it notices.
,webhook delete a1b2c3Aliases: remove, del. Removes it from Discord and forgets it. If it was already gone, bore still clears the record.
